Abstract Explorations

Red and yellow are shimmering, gleaming, cut by a folded metallic beam. Its hard edges drive back the soft surface of the flames.

Now the moon is a pale absence in the morning sky. Now the building is on fire, licked by tongues of pink, yellow, and pale peach. The flames reach for the outer walls, wanting them for their redness, while the low-lying hills of blue and green keep their distance.

Abrupt peaks reach with longs arms, circumscribing. Two slabs captured by their embrace, stand indifferently, together but apart.

Light slices through the corridor, carving a jagged passage under the resolute guidance of the archways. Pointed apertures diminishing in size bring the centre into focus.

About the artist

Anahita Akhavan earned an M.F.A. at the University of Saskatchewan, where she was awarded with a full scholarship and holds a B.F.A. in painting from University of Tehran,Iran.

She has mounted solo exhibitions at Snelgrove Gallery (Saskatoon), Negarkhane Honarha Gallery (Tehran). Select group shows at the Artscape Youngplace (Toronto), Art Parkdale International (Toronto), University of Montana, (Missoula) and University of Lethbridge, (Lethbridge).

In 2018 she participated in an artist residency Joya: arte+ ecología, Spain. In 2016 she was awarded the ICCC grant to curate a show Voyage to Vorres Museum in Athens, Greece . Most recently, she is thrilled to participate in Art with Heart Auction 2021, Toronto.

She has taught painting and drawing courses as a lecturer at the University of Saskatchewan and currently teaches at Toronto School of Arts.
